My name is Andreas West. I am the founder of yourDNA.family. Here is me (with one of our dogs, his name is Monte):
I programmed this web app because I was frustrated with the other options on the market. I want to leave the boring, repetitive work to computers and instead spend time interacting with my family members to find a common ancestor, like in this (customer) example:
Also, it should be easy for everyone to exploit the full value of their DNA results. No need for a Ph.D. in biology or years to decipher complicated topics - one of the most important features was fully automating the process of triangulation to identify a close relative. You don't need to enter centiMorgan thresholds, since the app automatically organizes everything in cards, which you can then click on and have the triangulation performed for you.
In less than 5 minutes you have your first triangulated groups, again neatly organized:
You can import your family tree in GEDCOM or the Ahnentafel format or manually add the information you and your DNA relatives uncovered. In DNA genealogy work you aren't only looking into finding ancestors but you're also tracing their siblings down to see how your DNA cousins are related to you.
A chromosome map is generated automatically from all the identified and "confirmed by DNA" ancestors (customer example):
Finally, I wanted to help all those that are out there searching for unknown parentage and have tried different approaches to no avail. With our app, we hope people find they are assisted in their search for family and that they have a much increased chance of locating their relatives. Features like the automatic screening of all relevant family trees for matches or the automatic surname matches will surely help all of us:
A word cloud lists all surnames you or your DNA cousins share if MRCA (most recent common ancestors) are identified. This makes it a lot easier to identify the surnames of unknown parents:
Note that a key feature of our app is working together with your DNA cousins (verified by triangulation) to find out how you're related to each other. Each triangulated group contains its own discussion forum where only members of that triangulated group can read and post:
If you're still undecided if the "Your DNA Family" app is the right one for you, here are some customer testimonials:
